We’ve never met. He never knew I existed.

Yet, to say that I’ve never had an interaction with Kobe Bryant would be untrue because even without our bodies being in each other’s presence, Kobe has positively impacted my mind and spirit.

Jay Shetty’s interview with Kobe gives this concept more context.

Shetty tells Kobe about deceased historical figures who guide him and says that we can be mentored by people who are no longer living. Kobe agrees and mentions storytelling plays a role in this; it helps keep their spirit alive.

So on what would have been Kobe’s 44th birthday, my gift to him is keeping his story alive by highlighting the parts of his book “Mamba Mentality” that show how/why he’s such a great mentor.

Blocking Out Noise

Kobe was an unbreakable rock in hostile environments. This excerpt offers insight into how he accomplishes this. During his playing days, he intentionally sought out the quiet and stillness of the arena before games so he could mentally return to this calm place amidst a bruising battle and a cantankerous crowd.
