Lessons From A Producer Fellowship
“One of the keys to success is to connect the dots; find out how to make what’s important to you, relevant to others.”
This sage advice was given to me by Karen Blackwell, a local business leader in Los Angeles.
I only crossed paths with her because I was chosen to participate in the inaugural cohort of the Youth Producer Fellowship through the Los Angeles Creative Industries Academy.
Marie Kellier founded this fellowship program to provide young people of color access to resources and professional opportunities across the breadth of the creative industries through sessions of instruction, workshops, hands-on experience, and conversations with industry leaders and practitioners.
Although the fellowship program focused primarily on film and other creative industries, the advice and guidance offered — which I will share in this article — can be applied to nearly anyone who seeks to be on the journey to success.
